Fantasy Basel 2024
Lots of action during the three days at Fantasy Basel. Lots of playtesters and lot of feedback.
Thanks to SGDA – Swiss Game Developers Association we had the opportunity to be part of their delegation of 11 swiss studios showing their upcoming and released games on their booth. Unfortunately, the location was not ideal. We were in the far corner behind the food trucks and next to an influencer speaker stage and a few esports stands (not SGDAs fault!). Nevertheless, a lot of people got lost there and at least one of our two laptops was occupied by visitors almost all the time.
We gained a lot of feedback and nice words, which was awesome. In general the demo ran well. People understood the tutorial and quickly got into the game mechanics. Some visitors even played for more than half an hour and finished the demo, which was very nice to watch. Also we had the chance to chat with a lot of players after their testing and they really gave a lot of constructive feedback and inputs.
We already attend at Fantasy Basel a few years ago, back then with the very first prototype, which was very difficult to play. So it was very nice that some visitors who had already played the game back then recognized it and tried out the new demo. It was fun to talk about the process and everything that happened during the past years.
In between we managed to stroll around the festival and check everything out. It was a huge thing with lots of visitors and you could quickly get lost. There were a lot of cool cosplayers with very elaborate costumes from all sectors of the entertainment industry.
My favorite was the Star Wars area, where you could see very large and detailed starships and environment models by the Polish Yavin Group. There was also an “original size” TIE-Fighter.
Thanks to Eileen and Claudio for helping us out at the booth!
In the evening we managed to grab a beer or two at a pub nearby. In general, Fantasy Basel was quite nice and we hope to be back another time, maybe with a new game prototype.
